    Why I like the R1S

Ha! The very best plywood/sheetrock transporting vehicle I ever had was a 1991 Plymouth Voyager minivan with the 2nd and 3r row seats out. Now that I think about it, I met my wife in that car. She made me sell it.

    Why I like the R1S

Has anyone been to a Rivian event? I am thinking about attending one in Las Vegas, but was less enthusiastic when the fine print says vehicles will be for viewing only. Does Rivian allow attendees to sit in the cars, open and close the doors, kick the tires, etc.? My other question is, what...

    Why I like the R1S

But isn't the R1S an EAV? ;) As Cosmacelf indicated, it will be in a class by itself.

Is the CCS charging network good enough?

ajdelange- I would agree but Tesla is pretty much in the drivers' seat on this one...

Is the CCS charging network good enough?

Thanks for sending this video. Placing charging stations is a requirement of VW's settlement with the EPA for Dieselgate. Volkswagen Clean Air Act Civil Settlement | US EPA As Tom Moloughney indicated, VW is required to pay $2B into ZEV, then they are out. VW should continue to invest if they...

Is the CCS charging network good enough?

I completely agree with Cosmacelf that Rivian and Tesla could both benefit by sharing the Supercharging network. But initially, Tesla would be helping (eventual) competitors like Rivian. Telsa's SC network has higher power, more capacity, is more reliable and is more extensive than anyone...

Is the CCS charging network good enough?

I am just not impressed with Electrify America. Sure, they are fixing some problems, but do we really trust VW? What are the obstacles to Rivian partnering with Tesla's SC network? Maybe RJ could call Elon and say, "Look, EA is charging people twice as much as it costs to drive an ICE car...

Is the CCS charging network good enough?

I read the EA article. Sheesh, what a mess. Imagine driving to an EA charger with less than 10% and hoping 1) the app works, or 2) your cc works on their reader, 3) the touchscreen works, 4) charging is not 50kW or slower. Seems like they are trying to make the experience better, but why is it...

    Who has reserved and why?

Thanks EOR. I agree with your view, but someone in the press should publicize this additional VW screwjob. Geez. Using the example above, traveling from Phx to Dallas in an EV should cost less than $65 using a generous $0.14 per kwh. Instead of Rivian providing a subsidy for owners, they...

    Who has reserved and why?

Well, it certainly doesn’t foster the adoption of EVs if it costs twice as much to “fuel” them, plus a charging time penalty compared to petrol. Since the cost of electrons should be less than half the cost of gasoline, somebody is taking advantage.

    Pre-order number

When I pre-ordered an R1S, I received a confirmation of my pre-order, but not a number. I have no idea how many pre-orders are before me. Any way to find out?

    Autopilot and LIDAR

Yep, I’m sure Rivian will go through their own version of production hell. Sure would be nice for for folks who pre-ordered to get some kind of update every couple weeks or even once a month. Could be anything but silence.

    Who has reserved and why?

Thanks. I just planned a route from Phx to Dallas in a Rivian 135. I like the info bubbles that provide location, ccs charging details, charging time and cost. About the cost... charging seems much too expensive! Distance is 1095 miles. Total charging time is 4hrs 5mins. Total travel time is...

    Introductions

Hi Rivian enthusiasts- I am a 56 yo father of three. Tesla Model S owner since Feb 2014. I don’t consider myself a tree-hugger, but I put solar panels on the roof because I hate being forced to buy electricity from a single electric company supplier - Feel the same way about oil companies and...

Is the CCS charging network good enough?

Thanks Cosmacelf. I couldn’t have described it better myself. Taper or ramp down is what you do when pouring liquid from a pitcher into a cup. You can start fast, then taper the flow as the cup fills up. Recharging batteries works similarly.

Is the CCS charging network good enough?

Yep. Would love to see more 200kw+ chargers out there. Taper is why I favor bigger batteries.

I hadn't heard that Rivian was partnering with Ford for service. Do you have a link to the article? I did know that Ford provided a big chunk of financing, however. I completely agree. I do NOT want to be the first Rivian owner needing repair at a Ford dealership-or any non-Rivian...
